Derrick Mason Doesn't Retire
Derrick Mason ended his brief but bewildering retirement Saturday, a decision that elevates the Ravens to Super Bowl contenders once again.
The team's top wide receiver is expected to suit up for training camp today, returning to the field only 20 days after abruptly announcing that his career was over.
"It was a tough decision, but I think it was a good decision for me to come back," Mason said in a statement released by the team. "I needed to evaluate my life, football and my career. The last several weeks thinking about it and talking with my family was an important time for me and them." More
I think his original abrupt retirement happened because his former teammate and one of his best friends got shot in the face and died. However, once he realized that, that type of stuff happens, he wanted to play football again. His decision is extremely significant due to the learning process of Joe Flacco. If Mason had gone, Flacco would be working with zero talent at wide receiver and he might have regressed. I'm glad Derrick Mason is back and am looking forward to Ryan Clark tearing his head off this season.
