"The Philadelphia Inquirer suggests today that the Philadelphia Phillies could seek to acquire veteran Mike Lowell from the Boston Red Sox to fill their vacancy at third base. Lowell is probably on expendable if the Red Sox acquire another third baseman or land a first baseman and move Kevin Youkilis to third in the process (ESPN)."
The only way I see this happening is if the Sox were able to land a big time bat like Adrian Gonzalez. It wouldn't be a bad move for the Phillies since he only has 1 year left on his deal, so there isn't much risk, but obviously the Sox can't lose any offense unless they make a trade. I said before that I expect Lowell and/or Ortiz to be off the team next year, so this is something that could become a reality if the Sox can get some other pieces moving...
