Red Sox @ Twins Preview (UPDATED)
Even with all the struggles the Sox have gone through in the first week of the season they can actually have a pretty successful roadtrip if they can cap it off with a win today. Red Sox had a tough opening series at Fenway Park, losing the final 2 games of 3 games to the Yankees. The Red Sox then opened their current trip with a loss to Kansas City, but have since bounced back to win 3 of 4, scoring 6 runs or more in each of those wins.
Today, for those that don't work, will get to see Liriano vs. Wakefield. Wakefield gave up 2 runs and struck out 6 in 7 innings in a 4-3 loss to the Royals. He has a very good record against the Twins going 14-5 with a 4.16 ERA. Lirinao also had a solid first game (6 innings 3 runs), as he looks to get his career back on track.
Boston will be playing without Jacoby again today, but that shouldn't be too much of a worry as Scutaro has done well replacing him in the leadoff spot, and Hermida has been one of Boston's best hitters early in the season. Ortiz is also going to be sitting today, and most likely that means Lowell will be the DH.
Game starts at 1:10pm (WTF?????) on NESN...
Prediction: Sox 6 Twins 2
***UPDATE***
Mike Cameron was scratched from the lineup with an abdominal strain. That moved Bill Hall to center from left where he was originally scheduled to play. Jeremy Hermida is now in left field.
Here is the lineup:
Scutaro SS
Pedroia 2B
Martinez C
Youkilis 1B
Beltre 3B
Lowell DH
Drew RF
Hall CF
Hermida LF
Pitching: RHP Tim Wakefield.
