Before I get to the whole preview thing let me start off by expressing how pissed I am at this week's Red Sox schedule. A 4pm game on Monday, no game Tuesday, and a 1pm game today...thanks, I can basically watch none of this because of my job. Did they really need a day off? They weren't traveling, they are still in Minny, just seems fucking stupid to me. Anyways, back to the game...
Lackey takes on Kevin Slowey today. Lackey was great his first time out throwing 6 scoreless innings, and overall hasn't been bad against the Twins (6-5 3.75 ERA). Kevin Slowey is a tough guy to figure out. He isn't great, but he is a typical Twins pitcher who just gets it done. He won his first start Thursday, allowing a run and seven hits in 5 1-3 innings of a 10-1 win over the Angels.
Lackey is going to need to throw a gem the way the Sox offense has been playing. Guys like V-Mart and Big Papi have to get it going or this offense is going to be flat out terrible. My thinking is Boston has too many good hitters to struggle for too long, and I could see them exploding one of these games. Hopefully that day is today.
