97 Celtics, 87 Cavs

Well with 18.7 seconds left on the clock you could here the fans chanting, "MVP! MVP" a chant that is normally reserved for LeBron James, but last night in Boston it was pretty evident that Rajon Rondo deserved it.

Rajon had 29 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists, and the Celtics beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-87 on Sunday to even the Eastern Conference semifinal series at two games apiece. Often overlooked by media (but not this site) Rajon normally isn't a focal point on who teams should watch out for, now he will be. With Pierce still struggling (9 points) and Ray Allen (18 points) going cold in the second they needed a spark from the young point guard and they certainly got it. No basket and rebound was bigger than with a minute and a half left in the game and Rondo grabbed an offensive rebound over Anderson Varajeo and LeBron and got the put back to seal the game.

The other unlikely hero of the game was Tony Allen. He had 15 points and played fantastic defense on LeBron and created enough offensive spark to make up for the cold shooting from the big 3.

I don't know what's up with Pierce, but this has been a series to forget from him so far after he's just averaging 11 points a game. I'm still waiting for him to explode and go off, but his shots aren't falling. I'm not really overly concerned because I'll chalk it up as my happy go lucky, he'll be there when we need it theory but there were times last night where I would have preferred a Rondo jumper over a Paul Pierce open look.

Either way, it's a 3 game series now and will have to go through Boston at least one more time.
