Very interesting matchup tonight, as the Red Sox head to Philly. We are going to see Lackey vs. Hamels. Their numbers are so close it is kind of funny, Lackey is 4-2 with a 4.86 ERA, while Hamels is also 4-2 with a 4.29 ERA, and both have thrown the same amount of innings.
The Phillies are damn good, and have won 60% of their games against the NL over the past 2 year, but when they play the AL their record is 10-23 (Those struggles have been worst at home, where the Phillies have lost six straight and 13 of their last 14 in interleague play). Also, I always thought of Lackey as an NL East pitcher (don't ask me why), and I really believe he is going to have a great game tonight. Boston should be riding high after Lester's great performance last night, and with the news that Ellsbury will be back with the team tomorrow.
All that adds up to the Sox taking care of business tonight. Usually going against a lefty is bad news for the Sox, but Ortiz was most likely not going to play tonight (except maybe pinch hitting), so I don't expect it to be that big of an issue.
Sox win 5-3
Players of the Game: Lackey/Youk
