7 Sox, 6 Yankees
Hey everyone! The Sox actually won a fucking game. On a night where the Celtics won, the only thing better would be the Sox beating the fackin Yankees, and they were able to accomplish that thanks to a semi meltdown by normally great Mariano Rivera.
After a night of blowing the lead against the Yankees Papelbon was able to nail down the save to end the Yanks mini win streak verse the Sox. Thames dropped Marco Scutaro's wind-whipped fly with one out in the ninth, putting runners on first and second. One out later, Hermida, who entered for J.D. Drew as a defensive replacement in the eighth, hit a liner over Winn's head in left to put Boston ahead 7-5.
I guess the most important aspect of the game is that the Sox were down 5-0 and was able to rally late to win the game. Boston's bullpen pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief after Beckett left with two outs in the fifth.
Beckett is visibly not himself and I don't know whether it's mental or physical, but clearly he's not the same pitcher he was 3 years ago. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but we are fucked because of that extension. We are stuck with a lame duck pitcher for 4 years after this and that's scary to think about.
Either way a win is a win, and I'm glad it came against the Yankees.
