Bruins To Lose Boychuk?

After an epic collapse the Bruins have to start thinking about next season, and there is no time to waste. Johnny Boychuk, who I thought was one of the better defenseman in the playoffs for the Bruins, is now an unrestricted free agent...

"According to the CBA, if a player is over 25 and hasn't played 80 games, then he is an unrestricted free agent -- not a restricted free agent. And that's the category Boychuk is in, because he's about a dozen games short of 80. So that means Boychuk can leave the Bruins without his new team giving Boston any compensation (ESPN)."

I really like this kid, he moves the puck well, and I think he could become a very good offensive defenseman (especially on the powerplay). The problem is that the Bruins don't have a lot of cap space (about $10MM) to sign guys, and they still need to figure out what they are going to do with the likes of Dennis Seidenberg, Mark Recchi, Steve Begin, Shawn Thornton, and Miroslav Satan.

What the Bruins really need to do is find a new home for Tim Thomas and his terrible contract, but I think that may be a tough sell to a lot of teams.
