Josh Beckett Injury Update (UPDATED)
Josh Beckett left his Tuesday start against the Yankees because of tightness in his lower back. Beckett had missed his previous start because of back spasms. Beckett is hoping to make his next start on Sunday against the Phillies....
"It was a pitch to [Alex] Rodriguez that he flew out to left on," Beckett said. "My footing just slipped, and it just got tighter and tighter after that."
This could be bad news for the Sox, as Beckett was having back problems a little over a week ago. If you can remember this is the type of injury that usually keeps Wakefield on the DL at some point in the season. Beckett did go on to say that he didn't think it was bad as when he was swinging a bat, so maybe that means he'll make his next start. The Sox really need Beckett to be the Beckett of old, because there really isn't a lot of positives for them right now.
***UPDATE***
Beckett has been placed on the DL. Joe Nelson has been called up.
