Forbes' Top 10 Sports Teams
Forbes released the list of the most valuable teams in sports. It is calculated by "the portion of a team's overall value that is derived from its name, as opposed to its market and league." Basically it'd be the team's ability to stand on its own regardless of where it's located or what circuit it's playing in.
1) New York Yankees (MLB) $328 million
2) Manchester United (English Premier League) $285 million
3) Real Madrid (La Liga) $240 million
4) Dallas Cowboys (NFL) $208 million
5) Barcelona (La Liga) $180 million
6) Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) $178 million
7) Arsenal (English Premier League) $176 million
8) Boston Red Sox (MLB) $163 million
9) New York Mets (MLB) $158 million
10) New England Patriots (NFL) $156 million
There are only 2 teams that surprise me on this list, and that is the Patriots, and the Mets. The Mets have been terrible for a long time now, and I am surprised they are this high. Could it be because of the new stadium?
The Patriots have had success in recent years, but the rest of the country hates them. When I went out to Arizona a couple weeks ago I was wearing a Patriots jacket, and it was none stop in every city we stopped in. Nothing too mean or anything, but they would always state how much they hate them. But I guess when you build a mall basically into your stadium you are making money.
Just thought it was interesting.
