Josh Beckett experienced back spasms while swinging a bat before Monday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays and will be re-evaluated Tuesday. The team announced earlier Monday that Beckett's next start had been pushed back from Wednesday to Friday. The back condition had nothing to do with the Red Sox's decision.
The reason his start on Wednesday was pushed back to Friday was because Beckett has terrible numbers against the Blue Jays, and the Sox wanted Wakefield in there so that he doesn't loose the ability to start games when needed. Well, now it looks like he might be needed.
We will get you more information when it is released, but I really wouldn't be surprised if he hits the DL with the way he has been playing of late.
