Last night's game wasn pretty, but the Sox got it done. Back-to-back wins and a 6-2 start to their homestand is really something we can't complain about, yet right now everyone knows this team still isn't right, but at least their winning.
Tonight we will see Dice-K vs. Eveland. I personally believe that Eveland blows, but he has been proving me wrong so far this year with a 3-1 record and a 3.82 ERA. He was outstanding through his entire outing Thursday at Chicago, holding the White Sox to two hits in seven innings of Toronto's 2-0 win. He won't overpower you as he only has 16 K's in 35 1/3 innings, and the Sox have fared well against him in the past (0-2 18.24 ERA), including last time against them when he let up 7 runs in just 3 innings of work.
The question for the Sox tonight will be what are they going to get from Dice-K. He had a decent start last time out, but is still be plagued by 1 bad inning every time out. He allowed six runs in the fifth inning of a 12-9 loss at Baltimore on May 1, but picked up a victory Thursday despite giving up four runs in the first inning against the Los Angeles Angels. Dice-K recovered to retire 13 of the last 16 batters he faced in Boston's 11-6 win.
I think Dice-K can figure it out tonight. It seems like he isn't far off, and with Beckett maybe heading to the DL the Red Sox really need Dice-K to find his groove.
Red Sox win 6-5
Player of the Game: Youk
Game starts at 7:10pm on NESN.
Here is the latest on Mike Cameron...
Boston CF Mike Cameron (abdomen) had a double and walked in four plate appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket in a rehab performance as the DH on Monday, reports ESPNBoston.com. It is not yet known how many rehab games Cameron will play in before he is activated by the Red Sox.
My guess is that he is back by the weekend.
Here is the lineup for tonight's game...
