End of the Line For Wakefield?
Wakefield has now gone into 2 seasons without a rotation spot, and although the Red Sox always need extra arms with guys like Beckett seemingly going down ever year, Wakefield might not even be the #6 guy anymore. Alfredo Aceves has been pitching very well, and he seems to fit the mold of coming out of the bullpen much better then Wakefield.
I love Wake, but I really think it is time they cut him loose. Even if he starts I don't at all feel confident that he will do well or even stay healthy. At this point in his career you can't stash him down in the minors, so what role does he fill. All he is at this stage of his career is a DL spot waiting to happen, and maybe a guy who can eat up innings if the Sox are up by 8 runs or down by 8 runs. That's it.
Love you Wake, but it is time for you to announce your retirement.
