BC vs UNC
For those that don’t know, I work for the Patriots as an usher. We also do events at Boston College, BU, and Harvard. Yesterday afternoon was one of the biggest events of the year as #2 North Carolina came to Chestnut Hill to play the BC Eagles.
I had one of the best posts available: guarding UNC’s locker room. I don’t get to see much of the game at this position, but I do get closer to the team than anyone else. How many people can say they gave Roy Williams directions, or said “What’s up” to Tyler Hansbrough? Not too many.
I did get to see some of the game, and it was a classic. Probably the best game I’ve seen at BC all year. The crowd was raucous, and about 40% of them wore powder blue. Tyrese Rice was a beast. It was the greatest individual effort by an athlete I’ve witnessed since LV Whitworth of Catholic Memorial rushed for 350 yards and 4 TDs against Xaverian.
Rice had 34 points in the 1st half, and wound up with 46 in the game. But it wasn’t enough. No other Eagle had more than 8 points, and BC fell 90-80. At one point, early in the 2nd half, the Eagles had an 18 point lead. But UNC was simply too strong, too consistent, and too poised to give BC the upset.
Oh, and one of the UNC players, I think it was Alex Stepheson, had a Pirates of the Caribbean backpack.
