Detroit Takes 3-1 Lead in the Cup
With all the talk about Sid the Kid and Evgeni Malkin before this series, everyone seemed to forget the immutable fact that Henrik Zetterberg exists. But now we've all gotten a strong reminder.
The Red Wings took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd period of last night's game thanks to some hard nosed hockey. Brad Stuart desperately saved the puck from escaping the offensive zone. A nifty pass from Darren Helm to Jiri Hudler allowed Hudler to strike a token backhanded shot on the net. The puck ricocheted off the post, and off Marc-Andre Fleury's shoulder into the net.
Then it was Zetterberg time. The Penguins put Crosby on the ice pretty much every other shift (even the penalty kill), but Zetterberg was almost always there to meet him. The Penguins were given a golden opportunity with a 90 second, 5 on 3 power play. But Zetterberg shut things down. He poke-checked the puck away from Crosby in the slot, saving an almost certain goal as Chris Osgood was committed to the opposite side of the net. Then he stole the puck near the blue line and brought it up ice to drain the power play, even firing a shot on net.
The young and nervous Penguins now have little to no chance in this series. Monday night, the Stanley Cup will be in Detroit, and it will not leave the Motor City. Detroit will win 2-0.
Doesn't this look like Daniel Cleary is practising his air guitar?
