Pettersson takes down The Wyndham

Carl Pettersson, probably most famous for winning The Memorial a couple years ago, held off Scott McCarron with a score of twenty one under par to capture the Wyndham Championship. Pettersson, a graduate of nearby NC State, shot a eye popping 61 on Friday which is even more ridiculous considering he bogeyed two of the holes.

The Wyndham Championship to serious and older gold fans is remembered as the Greensboro Classic because it takes place in Greensboro, North Carolina and was made by famous golf course designer Donald Ross. And if you know that, you know that golfing legend Sam Snead won the event eight times, still a record today for winning a single event. He first won it in 1938 and his last of eight came in 1965 when Sam when 53 years old. "Slammin" Sammy Snead has arguably the best swing ever. If you want to see it, go to youtube.com and search Sam Snead. I would put up the thing myself if I wasn't computer illiterate.

The Wyndham Championship doesn't draw the attention from many of the great players today either. With so much money in the majors, the Players CHampionship and the World Golf Championship, such staples on the PGA tour like the Wyndham, are overlooked and dismissed. The timing doesn't help either, being the week right before the Barclay's. This is the first "playoff" event for the PGA tour, and it is understandable if you are a casual golf fan and are not interested in this event especially because of the absence of Mr. Woods. And even though Tiger won the Fedex Cup last year, he didn't go to the Barclay's. He basically skipped the first round of the playoffs and still went on to win because he's that ignorant. Props to T Woods.

And with the Fedex playoffs coming up, here are the top ten money winners and most likely the one to win and take down the ten million bucks:

1. Tiger Woods
2. Phil Mickelson
3. Kenny Perry
4. Padraig Harrington
5. Anthony Kim
6. Stewart Cink
7. Vijay Singh
8. Justin Leonard
9. Ryuji Imada
10. Geoff Ogilvy

Well, Tiger ain't playing so I gotta go with Padraig Harrington. He has won the last two majors, three out of the last six and plays with some guts and heart on Sundays, which is rarely seen by the likes of the Sergio's and the Phil's.

In other golf news, Brendon de Jonge won the Xerox Classic for his first Nationwide Tour title Sunday, closing with a 1-under 69 at Irondequoit Country Club for a four stroke victory over Australia's Jarrod Lyle. Lyle had previously won two other Nationwide tour events, and if he had won this one would have received a "battlefield promotion" to the PGA tour and would have got to play in a couple events at the end of the year. Nonetheless, look out for Lyle and de Jonge on the PGA Tour next year.

And on the senior circuit, fan favorite Fred Funk cruised to a easy win at the Jeld Wyn Tradition, shooting nineteen under par and winning by three strokes over Mike Goodes.
