NHL Shootouts

It has been a couple years now, and the NHL is seems to be sticking with this shootout after won overtime to end a game. At first it was exciting, but now I am watching the Bruins regularly (and they are terrible at it) I am starting to question. Maybe I am biased, but I really think there is a major problem here. First lets step back, and learn a little about where a shootout comes from. Most people when they were kids (if you played hockey) did shootouts at the end of practice. These where done for two reasons, so a goalie could get used to dealing with a 1 on 0 scenario. The only reason was as a reward for a hard fought practice, but now you are giving away points in the standing for basically a practice drill? That would be like playing baseball and after 1 extra inning being like..."Ok, that's enough, we'll decide this in a home run derby". Exciting, yes. Would I want the Red Sox out of the playoffs, because the other team has better batting practice players...no. I know hockey is in a constant fight to stay live with ratings, but don't sell out the game. It just seems wrong to me. By the way the Bruins once again lost in a shootout last night.
