Movie Review: 'W'

DC has decided to do movie reviews on the latest films out in theaters. Since i studied film in college, i thought why not take the reigns. Today's film in focus is 'W'.

'W'
Staring Josh Brolin
Directed by: Oliver Stone

This movie was very impressive. Oliver Stone made it clear in interviews prior to the films release that you shouldn't go see it if you intend on it bashing, or praising President Bush. I couldn't agree more. Stone's depiction of George W. Bush is both accurate and entertaining. It shows not only his younger years, including the experience of going through fraternity hazing, being arrested, and moving from job to job searching for a niche.

however the most impactful part of the film to me was easy to locate. As the post 9-11 president, Bush surrounded himself with those he felt were most capable of planning America's next step towards the fight against terrorism. The opinions and positions held byt hsoe closest to him like Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, Condeleezza Rice were spot on. but the best by far was Richard Dreyfus as VP Dick Cheney. He is brought to life in the film and revealed to be basically the devil more or less. When asked by Bush was the exit strategy for Iraq will be, Cheney responds "there is no exit strategy." It was awesome to see a film straight up call people out in government like this.

you don't have to be a politics buff to appreciate a story about an interesting human being. he may have as low of a popularity rating as Nixon did prior to his resignation, but Oliver Stone proved theres a little bit more to this simple minded Texan.

I give it 4 stars

(out of 5)
