The Wake takes the hill tonight, and even though he had a rough last start, overall he has been the Red Sox best pitcher this season. Wake is 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA. Last time out against the Indians he pitched 7 scoreless innings allowing only 1 hit. Tonight he will be going against left hander Jeremy Sowers. Sowers was 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in four starts in the minors this season, and has been racking up strikeouts with 22 in 24 innings of work. Tough, Sowers has not had good luck against the Red Sox in his career going 0-2 with a 5.94 ERA.
I would like to say that I am confident for this game, but I have a hard time saying that if Youk and Ellsbury aren't playing. With Youk out, and Ortiz not being able to hit the ball out of the park, the pressure falls on guys like Bay, Drew, and Pedroia to pick up the slack. Last night they left a lot of men on base, so I would like to see a lot more "clutch hitting" tonight.
Game starts 7:10 on NESN.
***UPDATE***
Jacoby Ellsbury (tight hamstring) and Kevin Youkilis (sore side) are out again tonight. Rocco Baldelli has returned from the disabled list and will start in center field. Lugo will be holding down the leadoff spot...yea I am not happy about that either.
