The Indians (10-17) have had a terrible start to the season. The reason...pitching. Indians relievers have only converted 6 of 13 save opportunities. The Sox on the other hand have been able to rely on their relievers all season, and are near the top of the MLB with a 2.86 ERA.
Tonight Boston will send their former reliever, who has done a nice job filling in for Dice-K, to the hill. Masterson's only "bad" start came last night out against Tampa when he allowed 6 runs over 6 innings, but overall you have to be happy with what he has been able to do.
Pavano has had a very interesting start to this season. He is only 1-3 with a 7.46 ERA, but has thrown a couple of good games including last time out when he went 7 1/2 innings against the Tigers giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits. Pavano has the stuff to be a decent pitcher, but he is yet to prove he can do it on a consistent bases. He is also 1-3 with a 8.18 ERA against the Sox in his career, so this could be another long night for him.
The Sox do not know if they will have Ellsbury or Youk out there tonight. I expect to see Youk out there, but I am thinking the Sox are going to give Ellsbury a night or two off.
Game starts at 7:10pm on NESN.
**UPDATE**
Youk and Ellsbury will not play tonight, becuase of injuries.
