Red Sox @ Angels Preview

Despite dealing with injuries to many of their top pitchers and hitters, the Angels and Sox are both on the brink of first place. Boston as so today is 1 game behind Toronto for 1st place in the AL East, while the Angels are only 1/2 game behind Texas for top honors in the AL West.

Tonight Boston put Justin Masterson on the hill to face Weaver. Weaver is actually have a hell of a year thus far compiling a 3-1 record with a 2.66 ERA. We can contribute a lot of that to his willingness to throw strikes (31 Ks to only 9 walks).

Masterson on the other hand has had a tough go of it over the past couple games (12 innings 12 ER over his past two parts), and you have to wonder if he is starting to get tired, or if batters are starting to figure him out. The other thing that will be hurting the Sox will be injuries. Boston has been playing without Youk since last Monday, and it doesn't look likely that he will be playing tonight, and Perdoia got hurt in the Sox last game and will be out tonight (though should be back tomorrow).

Tonight could be a tough game for the Sox, but they are going to need their bullpen and hitters like Bay, and Lowell to really come through for them. Game starts at 10:05 on NESN.
