I don't know how many times I have opened with the same line, but I have to use it again. Aces are considered aces for games like this. The Sox have been flat out terrible lately. Their bullpen is so overused they are becoming useless. So, Beckett needs to be an ace tonight. he doesn't just have to pitch well, he has to pitch great and deep into this game.
The good news it that Beckett has been awesome more most of the season (13-4 3.27 ERA). Even that has an asterisk next to it, since he got blown out by the White Sox last time out. Tonight he'll be facing an old teammate of his in A.J Burnett. He had been pitching very well of late, except just like Beckett he got lit up last time out (which was also against the White Sox). Burnett is 5-1 in 10 starts versus Boston.
The will have to continue to play without Bay, so expect to see Reddick out there tonight. This is a big game for the Sox, because if they lose this game it just gives Texas and Tampa more space to catch up, and the Sox could be out of the race for the AL East if they are swept in this series.
