Hopefully some home cooking can fix everything that is wrong with the Sox. Tonight Boston tries to end their longest losing streak of the year with Brad Penny on the hill. Penny has a 9.82 ERA in his last 2 starts, is 0-2 with a 7.59 ERA against the Tigers, so much for making this easy...
The good news? Edwin Jackson, who is starting for the Tigers tonight, is 2-4 with a 5.56 ERA in 8 starts against Boston, including an 0-4 record and 7.67 ERA in 5 at Fenway. Still, this is a different Jackson this year, as he is 8-5 with an ERA of 2.62.
Boston outscored Detroit 21-9 in sweeping a three-game road set from June 2-4, and has won four in a row and seven of eight between the clubs. Though the Tigers have won seven of 11 and own a three-game lead in the AL Central, they've dropped four of five at Fenway Park. The on going question is whether the Sox can get any offense. Boston really needs guys like Drew, Bay, and Ortiz to really pickup their games if they want to end this free fall...
Game starts at 7:10pm on NESN.
