Tigers @ Red Sox Preview

The Sox go for the 4 game sweep of the Tigers today, as Verlander goes against Buchholz. Verlander leads the AL with 186 strikeouts and is tied with 4 others for second in the league in wins behind Beckett, who has 14. Verlander has not won in his last 3 times out, so hopefully this is the best time to face him (I know wishful thinking).

The Sox are countering with Buchholz, who had his first solid outing last time out when he went 6 innings allowing only 2 runs against the Yankees. I would like to be more confident, but a closer look at his stat line in that game and you could make the argument he got lucky, since he had 6 hits and 5 BBs against him. Still, at least it was a solid outing, and hopefully he can build on that today.

Here is a look at the Sox lineup for today...

Dustin Pedroia gets a rare day off, while Chris Woodward makes his first start for the Red Sox, at second base. J.D. Drew is also out of the lineup against Detroit righthander Justin Verlander, with Josh Reddick playing right field and batting second. Victor Martinez is behind the plate. Here is a look at the rest of the Sox lineup for today...

1. Jacoby Ellsbury CF
2. Josh Reddick, RF
3. Victor Martinez, C.
4. Jason Bay, LF
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Mike Lowell, 3B
7. Casey Kotchman, 1B
8. Nick Green, SS
9. Chris Woodward, 2B

Game starts 1:35 on NESN.
