Quick World Cup Preview: Knockout Stage

All these matches are based on my Group Preview from earlier today.

Round of 16:
Mexico vs. Nigeria
This would be a refreshing matchup. Unfortunately, I'd have to take the Mexicans. And before you call me a racist for hating the Mexican soccer team, it's a fucking sport and they're our (USA's) goddamned rival.

England vs. Ghana
The English are always overrated, and 2010 is no different. If Ghana had Essien, things would be different. I'll take the English here.

Netherlands vs. Slovakia
Give the nod to the much more talented Dutch.

Brazil vs. Honduras
Brazil rolls over Honduras in an exciting game.

Argentina vs. France
The French are always difficult to predict. But even if they're at their best, Argentina presents too tough a challenge.

Germany vs. USA
I think the Americans can beat a German side that doesn't have its typical strengths working for it. Germany's stale, and the US will win.

Italy vs. Cameroon
Italy advances in a blowout.

Spain vs. Ivory Coast
Even if this match-up doesn't happen, this particular game (winner of Group H against 2nd place from G) will be a massive clash. Spain wins.

Quarterfinals:
Mexico vs. England
I try not to pick the English to go deep, but they're better than Mexico. Much better. England prevails.

Netherlands vs. Brazil
This would be a fun game to watch. Can't pick against Brazil here.

Argentina vs. USA
A solid run ends here for the US as the Argentines advance. Then again, Argentina is beatable.

Italy vs. Spain
The Italian bid to repeat ends here as a powerful Spanish side moves through.

Semifinals:
England vs. Brazil
Finally, England will be outclassed by Brazil. The good news is that there will be rioting no matter what.

Argentina vs. Spain
Monumental clash here. I'm going to take Spain, but matches between titans like these can always fall either way, and tend to be determined by PKs.

Finals:
Brazil vs. Spain
Spain wins their first World Cup in an epic struggle.
