All seems to be well with Josh Beckett, as he gets ready for his start on Friday. Beckett threw 58 pitches during today's bullpen session. Even though he seem to be healthy Francona is saying that they will be taking it easy on Beckett's arm on Friday, by limiting his pitch count (probably 70-75 pitches).
"One thing we'll do is cut him short on Friday, which makes it harder to win the game, but it's the best way," Francona said. "After not starting a game [for a couple of weeks], there's no good way to let a guy go out and throw a bunch of pitches. So we'll steadily get him back to where the game determines when you take a guy out. But everything was real good health-wise. I think everybody was pleased (Boston Globe).''
So, I would think that the Red Sox would want to get Masterson rested before Beckett's start, so that he can eat up a couple innings. That's what I would do anyways, but anyways, all seems to be good on the Beckett front.
