Francona came out today and said that he will be giving Ortiz the night off. I first thought, shit here we go again this his wrist. Then I read it wasn't injury related, which pissed me off, because the Sox can take over first place for the first time in 2 months tonight. It all finally started to make sense when I read that Ortiz has a horrible time again Scott Kazmir. Here is exactly what Francona said...
"I told him, I said, `Why don't you come check with me after the game,' '' said Francona. "He did after the game and we both thought it might be a good thing to do. It's not easy not writing his name in the lineup but tonight seems like a good night. You've got a guy [starting pitcher Scott Kazmir] who has been real tough on him, real tough on lefties, I just think it would be a good thing to do.''
I still don't know if I agree with this, since it is such a big game, but in the long run Francona is probably right. I trust Francona, and I am sure he is dong what he thinks is best for the team in the long run, but I still would've liked to have seen Ortiz out there, since he has such a flair for the dramatic.
