"ESPN.com's Buster Olney (account required) reports today that the Red Sox have "had conversations" with Oakland about former Sox shortstop Orlando Cabrera. Cabrera, who was with Boston for their World Series win in 2004, is hitting .235 with a .286 OBP this season for the A's (Boston.com)."
The Sox have been cursed at SS ever since they let Orlando Cabrera go. Still, I question this story a little bit, because it seemed like Cabrera left on bad terms. There were many unconfirmed reports that he was a good clubhouse guy to the players, but he was awful to the Red Sox staff (owners, bat boys, ect). Anyways, even with these reports I think it would be a great idea to bring him back. He is a solid hitter, and would be an upgrade over anything we have at SS. Nick Green has been OK, but lets face it he really shouldn't be a starting SS, and Lugo is just a joke and should be brought behind the ballpark and shot. Keep an eye on this, because it makes a lot of sense, especially if Oakland falls out of the playoff race.
