Patriots Trade Le Kevin Smith To Broncos (2 UPDATES)

According to a Twitter post by ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots have traded Le Kevin Smith to the Denver Broncos. Schefter Tweets:

Denver and New England are dealing. Denver just acquired DE Le Kevin Smith from the Patriots. Don't know terms but know Broncos needed D help. Smith, a Nebraska product tabbed by the Patriots in the sixth round (206th overall) of the 2006 draft, appeared in 31 games over three seasons in New England. The 6-foot-3, 308-pound lineman logged a career-high 15 appearances last season while registering 14 tackles (11 solo, 3 unassisted). Smith enters the final year of his rookie contract and started Thursday's exhibition game against the Eagles, potentially showcasing him for another team. Smith projected anywhere from fifth to seventh on the defensive line depth chart in New England, but could emerge as a frontline player in Denver (Boston.com)."

Didn't even really know this guy was on the Patriots. No word as to what the patriots got in this deal, but I doubt it is much. He is unneeded on this team with all the depth the Patriots now have on their defensive line...

***UPDATED***

Word has it that the Patriots will receive a 5th round pick. They of course are doing this so that they can chance the Burgess trade with Raiders to be a 5th round pick instead of a 4th. If you can remember part of the deal with the Raiders was that they would get the Patriots 4th round pick, unless the Patriots were able to go out and get a 5th round pick...

This could also mean that Kevin Carter is close to signing with New England.

***UPDATE 2***

Fox Sports is reporting that the Patriots gave Denver a 2010 seventh round pick and DL LeKevin Smith for a 2010 fifth round pick.
