"The Red Sox have signed free-agent righthander Paul Byrd to a minor league contract. Byrd, 38, is expected to pitch in the minor leagues and be ready to join the major league staff around Sept. 1, according to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. He has yet to pitch this season (Boston.com)."
I guess he can't be any worse then Penny, Smoltz, Dice-K, and Buchholz, but I really don't like Byrd pitching at Fenway. It seems like he always gets lit up when he pitches there, and in general I don't like soft tossers pitching at Fenway. The Sox need some pitching depth (who would have thought that would be there problem in the beginning of the season?) and Byrd can eat up innings. This signing in insurance in case all the pitchers I named before keep shitting the bed, and Dice-K/Wake can't get healthy.
