Red Sox 6 White Sox 1
The Sox held off elimination for at least one more night, as Buchholz pitched another gem. In a down year for the Sox Buchholz has been one of the few bright spots. He went 8 innings allowing just 1 run on 5 hits with 5 Ks. Both the Rays and Yankees lost last night, so the magic numbers stays at one game for both those teams to secure their playoff spot.
Buchholz never gave up more than one hit in any inning, and had trouble in only one when he had runners on second and third with no outs in the third. David Ortiz, Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre each drove in two runs. Beltre had four hits and Marco Scutaro had three and scored three times. What's funny is 3 out of 4 of those guys could be free agents this offseason.
With the win the Sox are 5 1/2 games out of the Wild Card spot, but they will most likely get eliminated tonight with Lackey facing Edwin Jackson in Chicago.
