Bruins @ Capitals Preview
The Bruins looked terrible the first game of the season, but in the last 2 they are starting to look like the team I thought I would be seeing all season. One of the big reasons for that is the play of Tim Thomas, who will be making his 3rd straight start. Although I don't bash Rask like the Captain does, I did predict that Thomas would be the starting goalie going into the playoffs. It's not that Rask is bad, it's just that it is tough to do what he did last season again when he is so young, and Thomas has always been consistently good (yes, even last year).
Tonight, is a really interesting game. The Capitals have started off hot. They are 4-1, but when you look closer you'll see that they have been losing going into the 3rd in each of their past 3 games. The reason I bring this up is because the Bruins problem last year was playing well for 3 straight periods. They would come out dominate, and then disappear at some point. So, I will be watching to see if they can play with more consistency.
The Capitals are a top 2 team in the East, so to say I expect the Bruins to win might be overdoing it, but in a way I really do believe the Bruins aren't far behind this team (especially when they get Savard back). Boston is going to need Thomas to have a big game, but the good news is that I feel like this is a team that the Bruins can score on.
I want to see the Bruins come out and be very physical, because the Capitals are definitely the faster team, but the Bruins (when they want to be) are the tougher team.
Bruins win in OT 4-3
