"The Oakland Athletics and free agent first baseman and designated hitter Jason Giambi are on the verge of agreeing on a one-year deal with an option for 2010, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
The deal would pay Giambi, who started his major league career in Oakland, $5.25 million in 2009 with a $4 million base salary for the option year in 2010. The second year would also provide for a $1.25 million buyout." ESPN
What a couple years make? Giambi was one of the premier power hitters in the league, but after a steroid controversy and a couple of down years, the once slugger is only taking 5 mil. I actually like this move, with newly acquired Matt Holliday, Giambi might get some good protection in front of him, or provide some good protection behind him. I don't like Giambi, but I would take a flyer on him when it comes to fantasy baseball because of HR, RBI potential.
