Papelbon Gets Raise

"The Boston Red Sox have signed closer Jonathan Papelbon to a one-year contract worth $6.25 million, a major league source said Tuesday. It would be the largest contract in history for a closer who was eligible for arbitration for the first time (Sportsline)."

Papelbon deserves every penny he is getting here. I always worry about his health, but he is one of the best playoff closers of all-time, and an emotional leader on this team. I don't know if there is anyone who hates Papelbon (unless you just hate all Sox players), but honestly how can you? He is like a 12 year old, who gets so excited everytime he hits the field.. I'm glad they gave him this contract so we don't have to hear any bitching from him during the season. Just watch out, because when this guy becomes a free agent he will really test the market, and go for top dollar.

Javier Lopez also signed a 1-year 1.35 million contract from the Sox.
