Claude Julien Calls Out Marc Savard

"Claude Julien had a mixed review for the performance of top center Marc Savard, finding fault with his tendency to force passes and commit turnovers. ‘He does make mistakes,” the coach said. “He’s a guy who turns the puck over with some forced plays at times. His competitive level is always there. He competes hard. The one thing he can certainly help this team with right now is (cutting down) those kind of turnovers that end up hurting us. ‘One of them was the empty-net goal in Pittsburgh. (That should have been) an easy pass to the strong-side point instead of trying to put it through guys. Those kind of things happen too often for Savvy (Boston Herald)."

If the Bruins are going to get out of this funk they are going to need players like Marc Savard to step up. I really enjoy watching him play, but I know what Julien is saying. It actually isn't just him. The Bruins have been getting way to fancy with the puck, while trying to break into the offensive zone. They need to start grinding out games, and play dump and chase. That is what wins playoff games. It will be very interesting to see if this fires up Marc Savard, but like I said this really could be said about 3-4 Bruins forwards. The good news is that they have had a couple days to clear their heads, and get some practice in. Hopefully they will be reinvigorated when they host the Kings tonight.
