Daily Red Sox Spring Training Update

Sox 6 Jays 4

- The Sox crushed Roy Halladay with 3 HRs (Lowrie, Carter, Bailey).

- Masterson did not look good in this game. He 3 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 3 Ks. Francona said his velocity was fine, he just missed a couple pitches to left handers, and was exposed for it.

- Daniel Bard has yet to let up a run, as he pitched 2 more scoreless innings. One of the guys had him pitching 100 MPH again.

- Lowrie had a hell of a day going 3-4 with 2 RBIs. He has had a very good spring training batting above .400.

Other Notes:

- John Smoltz will pitch his first bullpen session a week from tomorrow. Apparently he has been bugging Francona to let him pitch, and says that he feel great.

- Brad Penny will throw one more minor league game (on Wednesday), then is expected to throw his first major league game five days after that.

- Justin Masterson will start one more time before the team will begin to make decisions about where he will be used, whether he will be a starter or reliever. I can't see them making him a starter with how well Buchholz is pitching right now. Plus it is great having a guy in the bullpen that can pitch more then one innings. I just don't see him being a starter in the MLB, but we shall see.

- Julio Lugo will miss three to four weeks after a successful arthroscopy

The Sox play the Twins at 1:05 on NESN.
