- The Sox continue to stretch out Masterson's innings. Francona says they have not made a decision on whether to use him in the bullpen or not. If Penny is healthy, and Buccholz is pitching well then I would much rather see Masterson help out that bullpen. With Masterson back there, the Sox have arguably the best bullpen in the MLB.
- Penny will be making his first spring training start today. He is scheduled to throw three innings. It will be interesting to see how he does. Will he try to protect that shoulder or come out firing? I think we will learn a lot about how he feels after this outing. Watch his velocity it should be around 95 MPH.
- Dice-K pitched 98 pitches last night in the victory over USA. That means he is done for the rest of the WBC, which is good news, since now we don't have to worry about him getting injured. Reports are that Dice-K is right on schedule to be ready for the beginning of the season.
- Daniel Bard has been sent down to the minors. Bard struck out 11 in 9 1/3 scoreless innings, and was throwing 100 MPH. I do not expect him to be in the minors very long.
Boston plays the Detroit Tigers today at 1:05pm on NESN.
