Lackey Pissed At Angels

John Lackey, who is in the last year of his contract, is getting pissed at the Angels for their lack of effort in resigning him...

"They're not trying very hard," Lackey told the newspaper when asked about the pace of negotiations. "It's kind of on them at this point. I love playing here and I'd like to stay, but I've put myself into a category that they need to get to (ESPN)."

Lackey is obviously very underrated, but for some reason I just can't take him seriously. It is probably because the Sox bounce the Angels out of the playoffs every year. Anyways, the reason is the Angels aren't moving quicker is because Lackey is asking for an awful lot. He is believed to be looking for a contract somewhere between the deals A.J. Burnett (five years, $82.5 million) and CC Sabathia (seven years, $161 million) received from the Yankees. Right now, with the economy the way it is, I just don't see any team (other then the Yankees) throwing around that kind of money. The Angels are smart to let this play out, and see where everything stands. Though the Angels can not let him walk, because he has been great for them and is still only 30 years old (I know I thought he was older too).

Lackey has a 91-63 career record and 3.81 earned-run average in six-plus seasons.
