There are reports flying around today that the Angels have signed the 2nd best pitcher still availible (the first being Sheets). Pineiro and the Angels have an agreement worth about $16MM over two years. I am a little torn on whether this is a good deal or not. On one hand the deal is only worth $1MM more than the Nationals paid for Jason Marquis, but on the other hand I just don't think very much of Pineiro (especially in the AL).
I know Pineiro had a very good season last year (15-12 with a 3.49 ERA), but he is only 1 year removed from an ERA of over 5 and this was all done in the NL (can't you just tell how much respect I have for the NL?) Anyways, he will be taking the physical today, which is usually just a formality, but he has had shoulder problems in the past, so anything is possible.
