There were a lot of people saying that Phillips would be fired once the Cowboys got blown out by the Vikings. Well Jones surprised everyone by giving him a 3 year extension instead. I actually think this is a good move. The only way I would have got rid of him was if I could get a guy like Bill Cowher, but since that didn't look like it was going to happen this is the best thing they could have done.
Phillips really got the Cowboys clicking near the end of the year. They were one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs. They were able to beat the Eagles in the first round, and had the best defense (statistically in the NFC), so why not keep him around. Some could argue that this team really just needs another weapon on offense, and to figure what they are going to do with their running game.
I say that they need a new QB, but that is a different argument for a different day.
