Please Retire Marc Savard

"Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Monday night that center Marc Savard has suffered a moderate concussion and it out indefinitely following a hit he took Saturday from Avalanche defenseman Matt Hunwick. Savard flew back to Boston Sunday and underwent testing on Monday.

"After being examined by the Bruins medical staff today, Marc has been diagnosed with a moderate concussion," Chiarelli said in a statement. "There is no timetable on his return and no further updates at this time (WEEI)."

I have never been a big Marc Savard fan, but I really did think he was one of the keys to the Bruins this year. I always thought if he could get back and play like he did before his concussion from Matt Cooke that the Bruins offense would fall into place, and they could be a Stanley Cup threat. Now that he has had yet another concussion I think it is time for him to hang them up.

We saw this happen to Eric Lindros, and it seems like once you get a severe concussion it is easier to get yet another. It isn't like Savard was playing all that great either. Look how long it to Bergeron to get back to what he was before his, and at Savard's age (33) I just think he (and the Bruins) would be better if he retired.

While Savard was out last time he had to deal with depression, random spells of motion sickness, headaches and so on. With all that we know about concussions it just isn't worth the risk.

Even if he doesn't retire the Bruins would be lucky if he is able to play again this season. So that means the Krejci, Horton, Lucic line will be reunited. They have had success in the past, but all 3 really need to get it going now.
