I really never thought it would happen. I denied it, made fun of it, but last night it finally happened. Sox fans have finally become the whinny Yankees fans we used to look down upon and laugh. I always wondered how people can complain when there team is in or around the World Series every year. Junior year of college I had some friends that were Yankee fans, and I used to have to listen to how they should fire Torre, and get rid of players like A-Rod, because they aren't "Yankee" players. Last night I saw the same thing, but there wasn't a Yankee symbol, or pinstripes, nope it was the same people who laughed hysterically when Torre got fired. "How can they get rid of a guy who brings them to the playoffs every year?", we used to joke. Now it has happened. Maybe we are even worse, at least Torre was 7 years removed from a World Series win, yet today you'll hear people calling for Francona's head. I actually heard people hating on Big Papi (calling him Big Crapi). Once again one year removed from winning it all, for a city that had experienced anything like what it felt in 2004. Yet, I am sad to say it has finally happened, we have finally become the same people that throw a hissy fit when the Patriots lose a game. What really scares me is how it is spreading, maybe the Celtics next year wont win it all, how long till they turn on a Ray Allen, or Doc Rivers? For the first time ever, I am ashamed to be a Sox fan, and it has nothing to do with what happened on the field.
