More Bad News For Sox?
It seems the contract extensions negotiations between the Red Sox and Kevin Youkilis have borken down. "Kevin Youkilis and the Red Sox will not reach a long-term contract agreement this offseason, said Joe Bick, Youkilis's agent. Youkilis and the team have discussed a possible long-term contract this winter, but the sides currently stand too far apart for a deal to be finished before the 2009 season.
“We’ve had some initial conversations” toward a long-term contract, said Joe Bick, Youkilis’s agent. “It doesn’t look promising (Boston Globe).”
This means Youk will have to decide between arbitration and signing a one-year contract. After losing out of Teixeira the Sox could really use some good news, and one way of doing that is to lock up the players that have made this team over the past couple of years. I really think the Sox need to jump on this so that it doesn't become a problem. Youkilis avoided arbitration by signing a one-year, $3 million contract. I would expect that he will be looking for $5 million after his near MVP season in 2008.
