Sox had a lot going on this weekend, and some players look like they are ready to go for the 2009 season.
- The Sox crushed the Reds 15-6. During that game Buchholz continued his strong spring training throwing 2 scoreless innings. The difference between this years Buchholz and last years is his confidence, and the fact that he is keeping his fastballs low in the zone. So far in spring training he is causing a lot more ground balls then he was last year.
- Varitek had his first good game of the spring knocking in 4 runs. Lugo also had a solid game going 2-3 with an RBI and 2 runs. Jason Bay also tore it up 2-2 with an RBI. Sox are going to need a lot out of Bay this year, if they have any chance of showing the same kind of offense they have had in years past.
- On Sunday the won again beating the Twins 2-1. Papelbon threw his 1st inning of spring training. It was scorless and over in 10 pitches.
- Youk had a HR in this game, as he finally looks like he is getting comfortable at the plate.
- The Sox pitching once again looked awesome. Beckett, Wake, Paps, Okajima, and Saito combined to go 7 innings of scoreless baseball. They also only let up 2 hits during those 7 innings. It has been amazing how good the Sox "real" pitchers have looked so far.
The Sox play Baltimore today at 1:05pm on NESN.
