Daily Red Sox Spring Training Update

Sox 9 Twins 5

- Sox finally showed some power. Jacoby Ellsbury, David Ortiz, Jason Bay, and Jason Varitek all hit HRs. The Sox really need a game like this, as they have been having a hard time putting up runs, but to be fair not having Youk and Pedroia can have a lot to do with that.

- Josh Beckett had his worst outing of spring training letting up 3 runs over 4 innings. Though it really just boiled down to a bad 2nd inning. Overall he has looked great.

- Jed Lowrie continued his tear going 2-3, and is now batting .429. Hopefully he will play well in the beginning of the season, because I don't ever want to see Lugo win that job back.

Other Notes:

- Dustin Pedroia will play soft toss and and take a few grounders today. He's on pace to take live batting practice Thursday. Pedroia says there will be no way he misses opening day.

- The Red Sox sent 6 guys down to the minors:
C Mark Wagner
OF Josh Reddick
OF Zach Daeges
1B Lars Anderson
P Felix Doubront
P Hunter Jones

From that list keep an eye on Reddick, and Anderson. Everyone knows about Anderson, but Reddick has been the talk of spring training putting on 15 pounds of muscle, and showing that he could be the real deal (went 11 for 22 with two doubles, a triple, and four walks).

- As I said before Bard has been cut and George Kottaras has won the backup catching job.

- The biggest right now is Papelbon who's velocity is struggling of late. More on this in a second.....
