"The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that a National League scout thinks Red Sox closer Jonanthan Papelbon could be battling a shoulder problem. Papelbon only hit 91 mph in his outing Tuesday and gave up a homer to light-hitting OF Denard Span (Sportsline)."
This would be terrible news for the Sox, but to be honest I would not be surprised if it is true. Papelbon has a tendency to get run down, and the Sox overused him last year. Eventually if you keep doing that he is going to run into problems. On the flip side of things he may not be pushing himself, because he did get run down last year. He might be saving it for when it counts, but this is definitely something to keep an eye on. If Papelbon was to go down, the Sox season would be in the tank...that is how much he means to this team.
We'll obviously keep you updated...
