Tim Floyd Pulls Chicken Shit Move

Arizona is still looking for a replacement for Hall of Famer Lute Olson after Southern California coach Tim Floyd turned down the job.

Floyd announced his decision in a meeting with reporters in Los Angeles Thursday afternoon. Floyd said he not only visited Arizona but also spoke to Memphis about its opening.

"I felt that I needed to look at those two programs," Floyd told reporters on Thursday. "I am at a point where I want to do something really special and I feel like I needed to go look at an elite program. ESPN

Well Tim Floyd had a chance to become a serious college basketball coach, and turned down Arizona because of one reason. Pressure. That is why Floyd had a 93-235 overall NBA record, and wants to be overshadowed by football at USC. So whatever, Arizona is still looking for a coach and hopefully they can pull Sean Miller from Xavier.

BMack's Take:

Well it seems that all the baggage that comes along with the Arizona program ended up being too much. Floyd looked into the job, and probably looked into how serious this NCAA investigation is and said that it wasn't worth leaving the solid program he has at USC. DP and I have been going back and forth about this. We both agree Arizona is an elite program, but we differ on what an investigation means. DP thinks it means nothing, and isn't even relevant to picking a job. I on the other hand see it like I see picking any job. If you were going to join a new company, and that company was under investigation by the government, then that might be something you would want to look in to. The same goes for a basketball coach. Floyd probably sized up the program's status, what recruits he may lose, what scholarships he might lose, and saw that this might not be the right job for him. Fan do not care if you lose scholarships at a school like Arizona they expect to win every year. So, if (from no fault of his own) the program can't get him the players that he needs then it would be a bad idea to leave a solid program to go to one that has too high expectations if the school does end up being in trouble.
