Smoltz Injury Update
"John Smoltz, recovering from shoulder surgery last June, will not throw batting practice Thursday, Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "I just think it's in his best interest to slow down for a week," Francona said after the Red Sox beat Cleveland 6-5 in 10 innings Wednesday night. "That's the best way I can put it (Sportsline)."
Not good news, but not totally unexpected. Listen Smoltz is going to take a lot of time, and the Sox need to take this very slow. With the depth in pitching that we haven't even really used yet (Bowden, Buchholz) the Sox can make it through the regular season. If Smoltz is back by July the Sox are going to be in great shape. I mean honestly this team is winning with Dice-K out, and Lester/Beckett pitching like shit. Right now they are going to let him rest a bit, and hopefully whatever is bothering him will calm down. My feeling is that Smoltz is pushing himself too hard, and the Sox want him to take it easy. I am not worried about this at all. We will keep you updated as we hear more.
