Mutombo Calls It Quits
"Houston Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo said his lengthy career is finished after a knee injury knocked him out of the Rockets' playoff game Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers (ESPN)."
Mutombo was in so much pain the he had to be carted off the floor. It is really too bad that his career had to end in this way. He has been good for so long, but you had to think this was mostly likely how is career was going to end. He is 42 years old and the oldest guy in the league. Eventually his body was just not going to be able to take it anymore. It finally gave out last night.
Mutombo is an eight-time All-Star who won the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award four times and stands in second on the NBA's career blocks list with 3,289. For most of his career he was injury free, but that finally caught up to him. We wish you the best Mutombo, and we'll see you in the Hall of Fame induction in a couple years.
