Patriots Trading Up?

SI's Peter King writes, "The Patriots are trying to move up into the top 10 of the draft -- but low in the top 10. Executives from two teams tell me New England offered its first-round pick and middle of three second-round picks (the 23rd and 47th picks overall) to Jacksonville for the eighth pick in the draft. Jacksonville GM Gene Smith, I'm told, said no ... but I also hear the Patriots might be looking to Green Bay at nine to move as well."

Honestly I think all of this is bullshit, and that Peter King is full of shit. The Patriots almost never trade up, and I don't see them paying a top 10 pick the kind of money that they look for. Take a look at what players between 6-10 got last year...

6. Vernon Gholston, Jets $32.5 million
7. Sedrick Ellis, New Orleans $32 million
8. Derrick Harvey, Jacksonville $23 million
9. Keith Rivers, Cincinnati $19 million
10. Jerod Mayo, New England $16 million (SI)

The thinking with the pats moving up is to get Tyson Jackson from LSU. He is the best defensive lineman at being able to play multiple places in the draft, but still I don't believe it. I think the patriots will draft for depth, and if they do anything it will be to trade some of the picks to stockpile once again for the next year. That has been the way they do business for awhile now, but we will see this weekend.
